Title: Cesar Chavez Education Center
Abstract: The Oakland Unified School District and VBN Architects have partnered to design an energy efficient school for approximately 600 elementary students. Energy efficient goals will feature natural ventilation; maximum use of daylighting planned for classrooms; recycled content materials and cool roofs. High efficiency heating ventilation with maximum use of "free cooling due to mild Oakland climate." Low VOC, steel frame, fly ash concrete, high recycled material content, non-toxic materials, construction debris control/recycling.The school held its grand opening in January 2004. The funding was a collaboration of many partners including the California Energy Commission and Pacific Gas & Electric.
